How did you get into digital account management?
After graduating in Interactive Media Design, I started work as a junior front-end designer. Not long after, the recession really hit and I was made redundant. I picked up work managing sites and projects client side for a few years in Edinburgh – working with lots of agencies. This got me interested in moving agency side and managing projects from that end. And the rest as they say, is history.
What’s the best thing about it?
That’s easy. The team. I work on a daily basis with the digital team, developers, content creators and other account managers – rarely are two days the same, which is always fun. I’m very much in the thick of it at all stages of a project, which I love, from working with clients to figure out what they need to reviewing projects once they’ve launched.
And the worst?
When our room gets messy. I can’t handle it.
What’s your career highlight so far?
Winning a few awards for a project that I was involved in from conception to delivery. Nice little pat on the back for the team after a three-year project.
What would you be doing if you weren’t account managing?
Tough one. Making jewellery. But if I didn’t need money, travelling the world snowboarding. That is the lottery-winning dream.
What’s your morning routine?
Get up at around 7ish, shower, get dressed and leave the house. I get everything ready the night before, pick out clothes, pack my lunch and breakfast, so I can squeeze in as much sleep as possible. Then it’s either a 45-minute walk or a cycle along the riverside to get to work. I quite like my journey into work!
First thing you do when you get to the office?
If I’ve cycled, I try and cool down! Else I pop my computer on, get music on and make tea.
What’s a typical day like?
Check emails, catch up with the team on the status of projects, check my ‘to-do’ list, and keep things moving between clients and the team. Managing projects take a lot of admin, so there is a lot of project planning, writing briefs, costing projects, research and liaising with clients.
And, most importantly, what’s for lunch?
Normally leftovers from the previous night’s dinner, or some sort of salad.
Home time! What’s on the agenda?
I go to the gym or yoga a few nights a week with a couple more of the Front Page girls, but on the nights where I’m not being as ‘active’ I’m either at home working on a crafty side project (normally some sort of crochet creation or a piece of jewellery) or vegging out with Netflix. I have a cinema membership, so I try and catch a film with friends at least one night during the week.
And finally, what time are lights out?
I’m a bit of a baby when it comes to bedtime! I love being tucked up by 11pm at the latest if I can – I love my sleep.
