With so many exciting things happening this week – the Olympics opening ceremony, the launch of Instagram stories and the the rise of ‘Meal Deal Talk’ to name but a few – we’ve decided to compile a list of what’s exciting us here at Front Page.
First up is this interactive map of Rio from Bristol-based Fiasco Design. The fun, illustrated map allows users to navigate the city and pick up some facts along the way!
A little closer to home, a new exhibition, Local Heroes, has opened at Edinburgh airport. The exhibition, bringing together work from some of Scotland’s most successful designers, will run throughout August and has been developed specially for Scotland’s Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design.
In the music world, we’re excited about DJ Magazine’s album of the month, Factory Floor’s 25 25, released on DFA records later this month. It’s been receiving great reviews so far, roll on the 19th August…
If you’re planning on heading to the Merchant City Festival this weekend, pop down to South Block and check out The Poundshop 17. This pop-up celebrates the tenth anniversary of the twinning of Glasgow and Marseille (who knew?!) by offering up a range of products produced by a mix of designers influenced by the two cities. What’s more, everything costs £1, £3 or £5!
Last but not least, we’re super excited about our very own Now Showing event, which gives you the chance to design an alternative movie poster for one of six cult horror films. Winning posters will be selected by a panel of judges and displayed at The Cameo Cinema following their reveal later in the month. Oh, and did we mention there’s a host of cool prizes up for grabs too?
